Kerouac’s book Desolation Angels was as exciting for me the first time I read it, as it was with each subsequent reading.
Can you imagine spending months and months completely alone as a fire lookout on top of a mountain? On the one hand, it sounds absolutely amazing. On the other, absolutely anxiety inducing. Still, there’s something about that voluntary withdrawal for a singular purpose. I guess I’m not the first to say it, but all of his works make me want to pull up stakes and get out there on the open road.
Oh yeah. The Grateful Dead’s song “Fire On The Mountain” is absolutely amazing. One of my favs for sure, and I feel no shame saying it should be one of yours too.
